GRG columns and dome

Column Casings In GRG

Cols_hbg_1Hbg_col_before21022006385001Reception_before_grg These show before and after shots on a site in Glasgow.

The GRG casings were cast in a small workshop set up on site as was the dome which has a diameter of approx 5.5m.This was cast in 4 sections and fixed using our own designed metal suspention system. The column under the dome is 7.5m high with a 800mm diameter. The smaller columns were only 3m high but there were 85 of them!!That kept the lads busy for a few weeks.

plaster restoration

04092006199 Whitby_windows_2These pictures are taken from the plaster restoration of the Youth hostel at Whitby North Yorkshire.

The first is of the completed domed bay window including ribs. The second is a shot taken

after the main body of the dome was restored. The problem  here was that the original had been badly water damaged over time.We took templates of the original and removed the old dome.We then cast the new sections and fixed them.

jumbo walls/infinity coves

Thought i had better take it back to plastering, after all thats what we do best!

This is the start of a contract to build three large photographic studios. In the first shot you can see the construction of the jumbo stud walls built to a height of  6meters.We then cast the large coves to a radiu06062005002_14s of 1.5m and fixed them direct to the stud walls and MF ceiling. 12092005_1You Large_coves can see the size of the cove next to Dan(he's 7ft tall by the way!!)

The coves were also fixed to the floor and wall angle and then the gap in between was boarded and skimmed.

grg ceiling

Reception_area_3_fullThis was a GRG plaster ceiling completed in July 2004.The works involved a total modernization of the reception area at the world famous Dilbag Cloth house in Bradford.

GRG mouldings were specified because of the materials versatility.Any shape, no matter how complex, can be formed using plaster. These profiles where taken from an architects drawing.

Reception_area_1_partitioningThese pictures show that plaster can be used to form contemporary designs as well as more traditional ones.

Light show update

Ted and I did attend this year's show and came back with some very good contacts and some great ideas for new designs, can't say too much at the moment but watch this space and all will be revealed!!

Also seemed to be a lot of talk in the trade regarding China, some good and some bad. Any comments?

The future's bright...

Myself and Karen Dixon who took over the business in 2004 have worked for Aagaard Hanley for many years.

Generally, my job is taking care of the day to day running of the business in conjunction with Ted Hanley who now works on a consultancy basis. This ensures that we retain Ted’s experience whilst working. I mainly price jobs and then follow their progress to completion. This means that a lot of my time is spent on site visits and yes I'll be blogging about different jobs and posting photographs.

Working with Karen, alongside Ted has enabled the firm to change with a very smooth transition without affecting the excellent service and business Aagaard Hanley offers.

My ultimate aim is to carry the good name and reputation forward for another 26 years!
